From Ripton's Backyard: The first national Christmas tree

The first national Christmas tree was installed in 1923 during the administration of Calvin Coolidge. It was taken from the Battell Wilderness in Ripton, VT courtesy of Middlebury College, and shipped via train to be installed on the White House grounds to great fanfare and celebration.
